About This Project

The Norfolk Store is a Cafe and Store located in the Norfolk Island International Airport Terminal. Insprint purchased the existing kiosk in 2013 and redesigned and contracted a complete rebuild. Over a 6 month period we designed and rebuilt the cafe and rebranded it ‘off-site’ Then, in a 2 day window between flight services to Norfolk Island, we worked as project manager to oversee the complete removal and refit – ensuring no disruption to airport passengers and cafe customers. The business was purchased and re-developed in many ways – both physical and structural.

The theming of the business is an ‘Old General Store’ which plays to the demographic of traveller to Norfolk Island and also ties in with the island’s colourful history and culture and uses the unique and beautiful Norfolk Pine timber throughout. Central to the design is a custom made 8 metre counter that is all one piece of meticulously stitched timber pieces. We imported all the equipment we needed but made sure all the woodwork was locally made with Norfolk Island Pine timber and we even had beautiful table tops made out of 3 inch thick timber slabs.

Perhaps most important, we implemented branding and company guidelines to ensure staff and customers were offered consistency in theme and service, which in turn establishes a platform for growth. Within 1 year we had quadrupled the business turnover. After 3 years of operating the business we sold it as a going concern and focussed on some new projects.

Please note the design of the logo (which we think is great!) was not created by Insprint. For this project we decided to create a design brief of our own and we have the logo elements created a an identity package created by an Australian based designer.
