About This Project

This project was brought to us by IMAS Corporate Finance in central London. Each year the company produces an Insurance Distribution M&A incorporating complex industry data that the company continually compiles. Until now the final document has been produced in-house by IMAS however with an increasing database the document was to be sent out this year to over 1000 industry partners and so we were engaged to publish the final document on larger and more commercial scale. We took a supplied document and reviewed and scanned for possible print errors and informed the client of visual elements to be reviewed to mitigate print issues. We then created a container layout for the core of the document following the company’s Brand Identity document and created cover and introduction pages, headers and footers etc. We replaced some graphics throughout with larger pre-pressed versions that would create a better print output and worked though version iterations to create the final print file.

The completed document is a 68pp A4 landscape publication with PUR Perfect Binding with 350gsm cover and outer matt celloglaze finish. We arranged, facilitated and had the print delivered to the company’s central London address on time and on budget and the document was circulated to the industry.

DIFFICULTIES AND CHALLENGES

The core of the document included complex data within the supplied PowerPoint document export. The problem with this of course is that things produced in Microsoft packages are not ‘print-ready’ for commercial outputs, so we needed to be very careful with the files we exported from their document to print. The pre-flight process was meticulous to ensure none of the 68pp of data had print/font/colour issues. The client requested a Fred Astaire theme for the document with a quote as the title. We researched to find a suitable image with appropriate licence options. We found a version of the image we ultimately used as a creative commons source, but also licenced a version of the image for the outcomes of the document to be completely sure and that all imaging licence bases were covered and documented for the projected outcomes.

IMPACT AND OUTCOMES

The impact is positive for the client as we managed to raise the production bar for their annual report to the industry. Traditionally they have published the document in-house and so me manages to refine the process for them and have it published as PUR perfect bound document with a matt celloglaze finish and create a much more professional publication.
