Fine Art, Tourism and Event Photography
Insprint owner Robin Nisbet comes from a background of photography and illustration having studied and obtained a degree in Visual Communication from Edinburgh College of Art in 2000. As a photographer Robin is completely self-taught and he established his first gallery in 2007. Specialising in illustration, Robin Nisbet has brought a rich illustrative background to photography and is passionate about creating strong visual narratives and has a deep understanding of composition and colour.
Photography, imagery and colour has always been at the heart of Insprint and our design work is peppered with the photographic and illustrative flair that comes from this work although its not directly a service we offer today.
As a project Insprint has been responsible for all of the design, advertising, branding and marketing of the photography business and galleries, and in the early years the business had a framing studio and workshop. Our team dealt with all the print stock and gallery orders and we were always heavily involved with the gallery design and contracting the shop-fitting etc. Really the two businesses went hand in hand for many years, but we decided to move away from photography as a service in 2015 in pursuit of other challenges, although the desire to capture and preserve has never left – that’s something that is inside a person and makes up part of who they are.
Much of Robin’s photography continues to play a strong part in our design work and the work we do for Norfolk Island Tourism. Its also prominent in our publishing work for Discover Norfolk magazine and Robin’s never far from a camera setup.
Robin strongly believes that great photography comes from a place inside where artistic freedom is allowed to reign free, and while the preparation for a shoot can be methodical and extensive – the process itself is almost mediative.
This is one of the fortunate projects where there are no difficulties per se. Don’t mis interpret that – photography is generally a roller-coaster process and there aren’t many photographers that don’t have many tales of ‘almost’, but luckily Robin is experienced enough to understand this, and stubborn enough to go back and back until he gets the shot he needs.
Robin’s understanding of composition, image and colour and his ability to create a visual narrative through imagery has largely been at the core of Insprint’s design ethos from day one, and it’s something we always come back to. The impact of that has been instrumental to many of our products and services and it’s crafted who we are in many ways, but ask us what our favourite image is and the answer is generally always the same: The next one.
